The Role
The External Banker (Medical) will be responsible for managing and retaining a portfolio of high-value clients within the medical sector. The focus is on maintaining strong, lasting client relationships while cross-selling the full range of Private Banking products and services. The role also includes positioning the broader Investec Group as a trusted partner in clients' financial journeys.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Management

Drive the marketing and sales of Private Banking products to meet and exceed budgeted targets

Source deals across all product areas based on business strategy and client behavior analysis

Meet specific sales targets across areas such as Lending, Treasury, and Forex

Present banking products and services in a clear and compelling manner

Identify client needs and structure suitable financial solutions

Conduct financial statement analysis and apply first-line credit assessments

Structure deals and present them to the Credit forum

Offer strategic input to improve the client experience for High Net Worth individuals

Manage proactive client contact and ensure client expectations are met
Client Management & Experience

Deliver professional, efficient service to both internal and external stakeholders

Retain and service the existing medical client base with a high level of engagement and responsiveness

Act as a connector to other Investec divisions (e.g., Capital Markets, Asset Management, Wealth & Investment) to meet broader client needs

Proactively manage and exceed client expectations through consistent follow-up and communication
Risk & Compliance

Serve as the first line of credit in mitigating lending risk

Ensure adherence to compliance and regulatory standards in all client interactions

Maintain strict confidentiality in all dealings
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting II) or BCom Honours
-
Minimum of 3–4 years’ experience in the financial services industry

Proven track record in client service and sales

Strong understanding of banking products and financial analysis

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
-
Proactive, self-managed, and capable of handling a portfolio of high-value clients
