The Role

The SHRA is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Junior Company Secretary to provide administrative and strategic support to the governance and compliance functions of the Authority. This role is ideal for a motivated early-career professional who is passionate about corporate governance and wants to contribute to the delivery of quality, affordable rental housing in South Africa.

Reporting to the Senior Company Secretary, the successful candidate will assist in ensuring SHRA complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements, and supports the Board, Committees and Executive Management in executing their fiduciary duties effectively.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Company Secretary in the delivery of secretariat services to the SHRA Board and its Committees.

  • Prepare agendas, board packs, and accurate minutes for all governance meetings.

  • Maintain statutory records and ensure compliance with the Companies Act, PFMA, and relevant housing sector regulations.

  • Monitor regulatory developments and assist with drafting policies and governance documentation.

  • Coordinate annual declarations, disclosures, and register updates.

  • Assist in implementing governance best practices and SHRA’s compliance calendar.

  • Ensure timely filing of statutory returns and support audit processes.

  • Provide general administrative support to the governance and legal functions.


Requirements

  • Minimum Qualification:
    A National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Law, Corporate Governance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Preferred Qualification:
    A Postgraduate Certificate or qualification in Company Secretarial Practice or Corporate Governance will be an advantage.

  • Experience:

    • 1–2 years of experience in a governance, legal, or company secretariat environment.

    • Experience within a regulatory body, public entity, or housing sector will be advantageous.

  • Knowledge and Skills:

    • Basic understanding of the Companies Act, PFMA, King IV, and other applicable legislation.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong administrative and organizational skills.

    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital board platforms (e.g., BoardPro, Diligent) is an advantage.
